A New Media and administration building for Tennis Australia at Melbourne Park.

Project description:

This project was to review and provide BIM and FM recommendations. RMIT University own 4% of the Melbourne CBD and they operate and manage 8% of CBD. As such a large asset owner and manager they are interested in capturing BIM and FM information for future works, FM and maintenance.

Services Provided:

  • Review current FM and Asset Management system

  • Work shop with the team potential changes to the current system

  • Create samples and mock-ups of new system

  • Provide a report, presentation and recommendation to the client of the following:

    • Changes to current system to improve efficiency and system ease of use

    • A BIM enabled FM system

    • Transitioning legacy FM system to new BIM FM system

Project description:

North, Mckinnon, Centre Roads Bridges and Ormond, Bentleigh Mckinnon train stations

This work is part of the Victorian Government's $2.4b plan to remove at least 20 level crossings by 2018. This project includes removing the level crossings by lowering the rail lines, reconstruction of local stations as well as improvements to the road and public transport connections.

Services Provided:

John Holland approved BIM edge late in the design process with the following issues;

  • difficulties managing the very fast design and construction program

  • difficulties managing and keeping track of the many design changes

  • upskilling a large construction management workforce to over see the work

BIM edge worked with the Project Managers at John Holland to identify a range of key pain points.

With this list of key pain points we then worked with the design and construction to improve each key area.

BIM edge works included

  • Using a Virtual Reality headset to induct and train the construction managers.

  • Create a combined BIM and 3D model of the entire project, keep this model up to date throughout the project.

  • Train the construction managers to view the BIM on an iPad using BIM360 App. This gave the team better knowledge and better decision making power on the project.

  • Create construction process animation using the model, these educate the team on high risk stages in the construction process and show where potential safety, cost or construction speed improvements can be made. Construction animation videos include, lifting bridge sections into place, station construction, construction of the main cut and rail corridor.

  • Audit the current design process and provide recommendation to streamline and optimise the sharing of BIM and 3D information.

Project description:

A new $40 million building provide much-needed, up-to-date office accommodation and facilities for Members of Parliament in the long-term, which is essential to allow for the ongoing function of Parliament.  It is a new freestanding 2 level office accommodation building with extensive roof garden located to the east of the existing heritage listed Parliament House.  It contains 102 offices for Members of Parliament along with foyers, break-out spaces & amenities.  The new building is linked to Parliament house over 3 levels via a basement tunnel, ground level canopy and bridge at the roof terrace.  The project also involves extensive landscaping to integrate into the Parliament House gardens and Parliament will continue to operate throughout the construction period.

Project description:

Major upgrades to the Junction Oval at Albert Park lake.

Adding a new grand stand, café, catering and event area, Cricket Victoria offices, outdoor training nets, indoor training area, pools, gym, upgrading the oval to be ICC compliant and upgrades to the existing stands.
